Our History

In the year of 1942, Prayer of Faith Temple Church in the fair city of Lynchburg, VA the church was established with a group of praying women. Over that period of time the church has been blessed with a session of five pastors.

In the year of our Lord 1952, Bishop David C. Love appointed Elder Norton B. Wilder, Pastor of the Lynchburg church. Ten years later after many revivals and campaigns, the house converted for church service was completely pulled down and a new edifice erected and named Prayer of Faith Temple.

In 1981, under the leadership of Pastor Norton B. Wilder, Prayer of Faith Temple was remodeled and stained glass windows were installed. On September 26, 1981, the goal was achieved – burning the mortgage on the church.

1991 was another year of growth and expansion for Prayer of Faith Temple- land was purchased for the building of the new edifice.

In 1998, the land was sold and new land was purchased on Hill Street. In June 1998, the ground-breaking ceremony was held at 3100 Hill Street.  Construction of the new edifice began.

On November 10, 1999 the construction was started and the Grand Opening was held on February 3, 2001.  This New Worship Center was Bishop Wilder’s fifth major building project for the Lord.  Bishop Wilder was pastor of Prayer of Faith Temple for 47 years before he was called home to be with the Lord on April 29, 2000. On August 31, 2004 the Elder Jonathan G. Willis was appointed Pastor and officially installed on February 5, 2005.

Under the leadership of Pastor Jonathan Willis new outreach ministries have been established.  The church is constantly looking to increase its overall membership base. Pastor Willis is well established in the church community with good leadership qualities that will enable the church to fill its vision.

For the past 70 years we continue to be a Church on the move. Our foundation is based on holiness, righteousness and truth, that souls will be saved, hearts will be uplifted, the brokenhearted will be healed and the backslider return to Christ.

Our Mission

Saints who are called to reach a dying world with effective ministry in this generation.  Never leaving lasting principles of fasting and praying, and living sanctified lives. We are defeating the enemy with faith, and our acquired knowledge of the word of God. We are real people, with real problems, worshiping and trusting a real savior, in a real world, with prayer, praise and faith.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be called out disciples for Jesus Christ, and to support the ministry of our pastor. To live Holy and Sanctified lives in this world, at this time. To love all people no matter race, color, or gender. To continue to live by God’s word without any contradictions. To effectively minister to our church, community, and world at large. To actively seek evangelism efforts and minister to those in need, through benevolence. To impact the world by being the church that God has set up.
